Faculty Appointment Types, Rank and Tenure Status

There are several types of faculty appointments at VCU (e.g. tenured, tenure-eligible, collateral, administrative/professional, adjunct, etc.) and all faculty have a rank (e.g. Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, Instructor, etc.). The policies and procedures listed below provide guidance on the type of faculty appointments, available ranks and how a faculty member can be promoted to a higher rank and/or become tenured (if eligible):
