I. MINUTES FROM THE UUCC MEETING OF May 9, 2002

Minutes were approved as distributed.

II. NEW BUSINESS

UUCC discussed new approaches to making the process of curriculum reviews easier. Items/documents talked about included guidelines for the Committee, general guidelines for proposers, and the proposal guidelines/review check sheets for new or revised courses, curriculum outline changes, Bulletin description changes, and course/program deletions.

Members discussed use of the Academic Technology Resource Needs Form; it was decided that this form would only be used for new courses or major revisions. It was also suggested that, in addition to the name and department of the proposer, a line be added to include a phone number.

The discussion on electronic distribution of proposals ended with the decision that this type of distribution will begin when the new guidelines and forms are finalized.

Additional discussions included an "effective date" for curriculum proposals. It was determined to use "future date" (Spring 2003, for example) in most cases.

Members discussed the VCU Libraries New Course and Program Review Form. Dr. Ibironke Lawal, the representative from Cabell Library, suggested that information on course content be attached or sent (as a Word Document) with the Review Form.

After discussion of the banking of courses, it was moved and seconded that this practice be eliminated.

In the future, proposers should take bachelors-masters program proposals to UUCC and the Programs and Courses Committee of Graduate Council at the same time to coordinate reviews by both groups.
