Important Message from the Provost
(Oct. 24, 2007)
Dear colleague:
As you know, our Board-approved Strategic Plan commits us to the success and learning of our students in unprecedented fashion. In short, the Strategic Plan recognizes that when our students succeed, we succeed.
We know that feedback concerning class performance is vitally important to student persistence and success. And of course, University policy explicitly recognizes our responsibility to provide feedback to our students by mid-semester (prior to the semester withdrawal date – see the Faculty Handbook, Section 2.9.4, page 20. [PDF]
The last day for undergraduate students to withdraw from classes this semester is Friday, Nov. 2. In the interest of our students, I ask that you provide graded feedback as soon as possible so that they can make informed decisions well in advance of the deadline.
For those of you who are teaching 100/200-level courses, the deadline for entering Early Alert grades into Banner is Friday, Oct. 26. Our early alert program targets early intervention intended to assist first year college students who need help making an adjustment to the academic requirements of our university. For additional information on the Early Academic Alert Program and entering Early Alert grades, please contact Anjour Harris, University Registrar, at abharris@vcu.edu or 828-2021.
Please know that I appreciate your extra efforts on behalf of our students and their academic success.
Thank you,
Stephen D. Gottfredson
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
