Email: VCU Alcohol and Drug Policy (Oct. 26, 2009)

To VCU Faculty and Staff:

Creating a positive environment for learning is essential to the VCU community. Alcohol and other drugs can interfere with academic success and campus safety. At VCU we proactively address these issues in both our health promotion programs and our policy enforcement.

The VCU Alcohol and Drug Policy provides information about protecting your health, sustaining safety, and promoting the general well-being of the VCU community.

The policy outlines the following:
  -- VCU standards of conduct surrounding alcohol and other drugs;
  -- University and community resources;
  -- the health effects of alcohol and other drugs;and
  -- Federal and state laws pertaining to alcohol and other drugs.

All VCU faculty and staff are asked to take a moment to read this important policy:

In addition, please be aware that VCU’s Wellness Resource Center provides students with a unique and free on-line learning opportunity. Participants can take an anonymous alcohol and other drug assessment by logging onto http://www.thewell.vcu.edu/  . The password for all participants is vcurams. At the end of the assessment, the participant is provided immediate personalized feedback about their risk and protective behaviors. A helpful assessment is available for non-students at http://rethinkingdrinking.niaaa.nih.gov/ .

Thank you.
